What was the ethnic makeup of the Roman army towards the end of the Republic and through the Empire period?

the Romans use just to use people what could afford land. But as the Empire got bigger they used all Italians. when the empire got bigger they used foreign Auxilliary. but they was never the same country. they would use Britons in Africa. also use africans in Briton. look at the Roman army like the German SS it was a multinational army consisted of peoples from all round the world
