(athiests only) Do you think intellegence is a good survival method?

Although it has gave us our place as the dominant animal on this planet, intelligence leads to technology, and may result in our extinction. I saw this on "Into the universe/Steven Hawkings" and he said that the probability of sterilization of the earth as a result of nuclear technology is a one in 10 chance. Also, we're not equipped well physically to survive as well as say birds, roaches, and crocodiles, who are not smart species but are more resilient and have been around much longer than humans( without our high I.Q we surely would have gone extinct like other human species have)
