In the Bush administration’s response to the election of Hamas in the Palestinian Authority?

You have to remember that the outcome of the elections was a total shock to him The prime directive of neoconservatism is to spread American democracy to the rest of the world. They really believe that if it is spread, that the people will elect people who believe in western liberalism. What they got (there and Iraq) was voting by tribal, religious, and or radical Islam principles. Once they saw that their idealism was misplaced, they quickly condemned the elections and the later HAMAS rebellion against Palestine and the bloodbath, made it easy for the complete turnaround to resonate. Their main flaw is to ume that cultures that have no democratic tradition and like the security of a supreme ruling body will vote in believers in republican government.
